Search Tips

When you select a discipline, your search is limited to that particular termbank.

If a discipline is not selected, the whole TermFinder database is searched for your query.

Use wildcards in the search string:

•the asterisk (*) wildcard searches for a sequence of 0 or more characters in a string; Ex: am*ba finds ameba or amoeba

•the underscore (_) wildcard searches for exactly 1 character in a string; Ex: c_ll finds cell or call

•wildcards can be used for browsing; Ex: c* finds all the words starting with c

Definition: the monitoring of the environment inside and outside the cell
Example:
1. Because they interface with the environment, cell membranes also support surveillance and sensory systems.

2. Stimuli from outside the cell are often detected by cell surface receptors, which are surveillance proteins lodged in the outer cell membrane.
