Search Tips

When you select a discipline, your search is limited to that particular termbank.

If a discipline is not selected, the whole TermFinder database is searched for your query.

Use wildcards in the search string:

•the asterisk (*) wildcard searches for a sequence of 0 or more characters in a string; Ex: am*ba finds ameba or amoeba

•the underscore (_) wildcard searches for exactly 1 character in a string; Ex: c_ll finds cell or call

•wildcards can be used for browsing; Ex: c* finds all the words starting with c

plural: ribosomes
Definition: a small, ball-like structure in the cell, made of proteins and RNA molecules, which is the site of protein synthesis
Example:
1. When a ribosome reaches a termination or stop codon instead of another amino acid, a termination factor is inserted into the A-site.

2. The cellular machinery that actually reads the code and builds polypeptides has two other components, ribosomes and tRNA.
