Search Tips

When you select a discipline, your search is limited to that particular termbank.

If a discipline is not selected, the whole TermFinder database is searched for your query.

Use wildcards in the search string:

•the asterisk (*) wildcard searches for a sequence of 0 or more characters in a string; Ex: am*ba finds ameba or amoeba

•the underscore (_) wildcard searches for exactly 1 character in a string; Ex: c_ll finds cell or call

•wildcards can be used for browsing; Ex: c* finds all the words starting with c

Grammar: verb
verb forms: metabolises, metabolised, metabolising
Definition: to undergo change by biochemical processes within a cell or living organism, e.g. to break down complex molecules to produce energy, or to use energy to build complex molecules
Example:
1. Cells must not only metabolise, they must also propagate life via cell division.

2. The arrangement of genes and regulatory DNA sequences in some bacteria is designed to control the production of the lactose metabolising enzymes.
