  • Definition: the largest gland of the body, located in the abdominal cavity. This organ secretes bile and is active in the formation of certain blood proteins and in the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins.
  • Example:
    1. The normal CFTR gene (wild type allele) controls the movement of chloride ions across the membranes of cells in the gut, lungs, pancreas and liver.

    2. Tissue differentiation develops highly specialised structures such as livers, eyes, hands and ears.
