Search Tips

When you select a discipline, your search is limited to that particular termbank.

If a discipline is not selected, the whole TermFinder database is searched for your query.

Use wildcards in the search string:

•the asterisk (*) wildcard searches for a sequence of 0 or more characters in a string; Ex: am*ba finds ameba or amoeba

•the underscore (_) wildcard searches for exactly 1 character in a string; Ex: c_ll finds cell or call

•wildcards can be used for browsing; Ex: c* finds all the words starting with c

Definition: a group of organic compounds that do not dissolve in water but are soluble in organic solvents. Lipids include fats, phospholipids and glycolipids.
Example:
1. Lipids function as a long term energy store, and form steroid hormones and biological membranes.

2. Along with proteins, lipids, carbohydrates and nucleic acids are the major components of cells.
