Search Tips

When you select a discipline, your search is limited to that particular termbank.

If a discipline is not selected, the whole TermFinder database is searched for your query.

Use wildcards in the search string:

•the asterisk (*) wildcard searches for a sequence of 0 or more characters in a string; Ex: am*ba finds ameba or amoeba

•the underscore (_) wildcard searches for exactly 1 character in a string; Ex: c_ll finds cell or call

•wildcards can be used for browsing; Ex: c* finds all the words starting with c

Grammar: verb
verb forms: inhibits, inhibited, inhibiting
Definition: to decrease, limit, or block the function or action of an organ, an enzyme, or other chemical agent
Example:
1. Once the telomere reaches a critically short length, it activates genes that inhibit cell division and stimulate cell death.

2. Malathion inhibits the breakdown of acetylcholine released from nerve cells, which leads to uncontrolled muscle contraction.
