Search Tips

When you select a discipline, your search is limited to that particular termbank.

If a discipline is not selected, the whole TermFinder database is searched for your query.

Use wildcards in the search string:

•the asterisk (*) wildcard searches for a sequence of 0 or more characters in a string; Ex: am*ba finds ameba or amoeba

•the underscore (_) wildcard searches for exactly 1 character in a string; Ex: c_ll finds cell or call

•wildcards can be used for browsing; Ex: c* finds all the words starting with c

1. New organisms are constructed by the fertilisation of two gamete cells or nuclei from different parents.

2. Meiosis halves the number of chromosomes per cell (from 2n to n) so that the normal number of chromosomes is re-established after fertilisation of eggs with sperm.
