Search Tips

When you select a discipline, your search is limited to that particular termbank.

If a discipline is not selected, the whole TermFinder database is searched for your query.

Use wildcards in the search string:

•the asterisk (*) wildcard searches for a sequence of 0 or more characters in a string; Ex: am*ba finds ameba or amoeba

•the underscore (_) wildcard searches for exactly 1 character in a string; Ex: c_ll finds cell or call

•wildcards can be used for browsing; Ex: c* finds all the words starting with c

plural: codons
Definition: any sequence of three adjacent nucleotides in DNA or RNA. Most codons specify the insertion of an amino acid in a particular position in a polypeptide chain, but a small number signal the end of the polypeptide.
Example:
1. Many amino acids are coded by several codons.

2. Using its anti-codon, tRNA can bind onto codons in mRNA corresponding to the amino acid that it is carrying in a process called translation.
