Search Tips

When you select a discipline, your search is limited to that particular termbank.

If a discipline is not selected, the whole TermFinder database is searched for your query.

Use wildcards in the search string:

•the asterisk (*) wildcard searches for a sequence of 0 or more characters in a string; Ex: am*ba finds ameba or amoeba

•the underscore (_) wildcard searches for exactly 1 character in a string; Ex: c_ll finds cell or call

•wildcards can be used for browsing; Ex: c* finds all the words starting with c

Grammar: noun
plural: chromatids
Definition: one of two daughter strands of a replicated chromosome. Chromatids are joined by a single centromere and separate during cell division to become individual chromosomes.
Example:
Condensed chromosomes are pulled apart during mitosis, using a system of microtubules which drag the separated chromatids to opposite poles of the cell.
