Search Tips

When you select a discipline, your search is limited to that particular termbank.

If a discipline is not selected, the whole TermFinder database is searched for your query.

Use wildcards in the search string:

•the asterisk (*) wildcard searches for a sequence of 0 or more characters in a string; Ex: am*ba finds ameba or amoeba

•the underscore (_) wildcard searches for exactly 1 character in a string; Ex: c_ll finds cell or call

•wildcards can be used for browsing; Ex: c* finds all the words starting with c

Definition: the basic structural and functional unit of life, which produces energy and uses it to build all the substances necessary for its life.
Example:
1. Mitosis produces daughter cells that are genetically identical to the parental cell.

2. Most mutations occur during cell division, and so cells have learnt to count the number of divisions that they have undertaken and shut down after a certain number.
