Search Tips

When you select a discipline, your search is limited to that particular termbank.

If a discipline is not selected, the whole TermFinder database is searched for your query.

Use wildcards in the search string:

•the asterisk (*) wildcard searches for a sequence of 0 or more characters in a string; Ex: am*ba finds ameba or amoeba

•the underscore (_) wildcard searches for exactly 1 character in a string; Ex: c_ll finds cell or call

•wildcards can be used for browsing; Ex: c* finds all the words starting with c

Definition: the region of a DNA molecule to which the RNA polymerase attaches, and which signals the start of transcription
Example:
1. RNA polymerase binds to a promoter region on the complementary strand of DNA upstream of the gene to be copied.

2. The promoter is marked by a specific sequence of nucleotides.
