Search Tips

When you select a discipline, your search is limited to that particular termbank.

If a discipline is not selected, the whole TermFinder database is searched for your query.

Use wildcards in the search string:

•the asterisk (*) wildcard searches for a sequence of 0 or more characters in a string; Ex: am*ba finds ameba or amoeba

•the underscore (_) wildcard searches for exactly 1 character in a string; Ex: c_ll finds cell or call

•wildcards can be used for browsing; Ex: c* finds all the words starting with c

Grammar: noun and adjective
plural: cancers
Definition: a group of diseases that is characterized by uncontrolled growth and spread of abnormal cells. This growth is in turn caused by uncontrolled division of cells.
Example:
1. It's been obvious to biologists for a long time that if you can control cell division, you can control cancer.

2. Cancer cells lose control of the cell cycle and often become structurally defective.
