Search Tips

When you select a discipline, your search is limited to that particular termbank.

If a discipline is not selected, the whole TermFinder database is searched for your query.

Use wildcards in the search string:

•the asterisk (*) wildcard searches for a sequence of 0 or more characters in a string; Ex: am*ba finds ameba or amoeba

•the underscore (_) wildcard searches for exactly 1 character in a string; Ex: c_ll finds cell or call

•wildcards can be used for browsing; Ex: c* finds all the words starting with c

plural: worms
Definition: any of various invertebrates which have a long, flexible, rounded or flattened body, often without obvious appendages (see Usage Note below)
Example:
1. Galeolaria is a common polychaete (annelid or segmented) worm.

2. The common term "worm" includes animals from the phyla Annelida, Nematoda, Nemertea, and Platyhelminthes.
Usage Note: Worm is used both as a common term and as a taxonomic term covering several phyla.
