Search Tips

When you select a discipline, your search is limited to that particular termbank.

If a discipline is not selected, the whole TermFinder database is searched for your query.

Use wildcards in the search string:

•the asterisk (*) wildcard searches for a sequence of 0 or more characters in a string; Ex: am*ba finds ameba or amoeba

•the underscore (_) wildcard searches for exactly 1 character in a string; Ex: c_ll finds cell or call

•wildcards can be used for browsing; Ex: c* finds all the words starting with c

plural: stimuli
Definition: any changeable factor, external or internal to an organism, that provokes a physiological or behavioural response
Example:
1. Cells often respond to such stimuli by regulating the genes that they express.

2. Stimuli from outside the cell are often detected by cell surface receptors, such as surveillance proteins lodged in the outer cell membrane.
