Search Tips

When you select a discipline, your search is limited to that particular termbank.

If a discipline is not selected, the whole TermFinder database is searched for your query.

Use wildcards in the search string:

•the asterisk (*) wildcard searches for a sequence of 0 or more characters in a string; Ex: am*ba finds ameba or amoeba

•the underscore (_) wildcard searches for exactly 1 character in a string; Ex: c_ll finds cell or call

•wildcards can be used for browsing; Ex: c* finds all the words starting with c

Grammar: noun
plural: organs
Definition: a differentiated part of the body that performs a specific function, and is linked into larger systems, such as the digestive system
Example:
1. Cellular migration provides cells that will eventually differentiate into internal organs, muscles and bones.

2. The development of fluid-filled body cavities like the coelom allowed different tissue types to come together to form discrete organs that were specialized for particular functions.
