Search Tips

When you select a discipline, your search is limited to that particular termbank.

If a discipline is not selected, the whole TermFinder database is searched for your query.

Use wildcards in the search string:

•the asterisk (*) wildcard searches for a sequence of 0 or more characters in a string; Ex: am*ba finds ameba or amoeba

•the underscore (_) wildcard searches for exactly 1 character in a string; Ex: c_ll finds cell or call

•wildcards can be used for browsing; Ex: c* finds all the words starting with c

Grammar: noun, adjective
plural: mutants
Definition: (noun) an individual, or an organism, or a new genetic character resulting from mutation
Example:
1. While it is not ethical to create knockout mutants in humans, many such mutants are already known, especially those that cause disease.

2. The mutant allele that causes cystic fibrosis varies from the normal allele by deletion of just one amino acid, which causes excess mucous production blocking ducts like bronchioles.
