Search Tips

When you select a discipline, your search is limited to that particular termbank.

If a discipline is not selected, the whole TermFinder database is searched for your query.

Use wildcards in the search string:

•the asterisk (*) wildcard searches for a sequence of 0 or more characters in a string; Ex: am*ba finds ameba or amoeba

•the underscore (_) wildcard searches for exactly 1 character in a string; Ex: c_ll finds cell or call

•wildcards can be used for browsing; Ex: c* finds all the words starting with c

Definition: any of the simple sugars that serve as building blocks for carbohydrates
Example:
1. Photosynthesis converts carbon dioxide from the atmosphere into simple monosaccharides, like glucose, that are the starting material of all biological molecules.

2. Lactose must be broken down into monosaccharides by bacteria to release energy.
