  • Definition: one of the types of white blood cells that participate in the immune response. See also B-cells and T-cells.
  • Example:
    1. During an infection, antigens stimulate B lymphocytes to temporarily activate the genes that encode defensive antibody proteins.

    2. The two primary types of lymphocytes originate from stem cells in bone marrow and travel to lymphoid tissues.
