When you select a discipline, your search is limited to that particular termbank.

If a discipline is not selected, the whole TermFinder database is searched for your query.

Use wildcards in the search string:

•the asterisk (*) wildcard searches for a sequence of 0 or more characters in a string; Ex: am*ba finds ameba or amoeba

•the underscore (_) wildcard searches for exactly 1 character in a string; Ex: c_ll finds cell or call

•wildcards can be used for browsing; Ex: c* finds all the words starting with c

Definition: the largest gland of the body, located in the abdominal cavity. This organ secretes bile and is active in the formation of certain blood proteins and in the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins.
Example:
1. The normal CFTR gene (wild type allele) controls the movement of chloride ions across the membranes of cells in the gut, lungs, pancreas and liver.

2. Tissue differentiation develops highly specialised structures such as livers, eyes, hands and ears.
