Search Tips

When you select a discipline, your search is limited to that particular termbank.

If a discipline is not selected, the whole TermFinder database is searched for your query.

Use wildcards in the search string:

•the asterisk (*) wildcard searches for a sequence of 0 or more characters in a string; Ex: am*ba finds ameba or amoeba

•the underscore (_) wildcard searches for exactly 1 character in a string; Ex: c_ll finds cell or call

•wildcards can be used for browsing; Ex: c* finds all the words starting with c

Grammar: noun
plural: kinases
Definition: an enzyme involved in producing energy in the cell. Kinases are proteins that can activate or inhibit other proteins, in a process called phosphorylation.
Example:
1. Protein kinases control transitions from one phase to another during the cell cycle.

2. cAMP activates kinase proteins that add a phosphate group to an enzyme, which then breaks down glycogen into glucose for energy.
