Search Tips

When you select a discipline, your search is limited to that particular termbank.

If a discipline is not selected, the whole TermFinder database is searched for your query.

Use wildcards in the search string:

•the asterisk (*) wildcard searches for a sequence of 0 or more characters in a string; Ex: am*ba finds ameba or amoeba

•the underscore (_) wildcard searches for exactly 1 character in a string; Ex: c_ll finds cell or call

•wildcards can be used for browsing; Ex: c* finds all the words starting with c

Grammar: noun
plural: ions
Definition: an atom that has either lost or gained one or more electrons, so that it has an electrical charge. Ions can be either positively or negatively charged.
Example:
1. ATP is generated by hydrogen ions passing through ATP synthase.

2. The normal CFTR gene controls the movement of chloride ions across the membranes of cells in the gut, lungs, pancreas and liver.
