Search Tips

When you select a discipline, your search is limited to that particular termbank.

If a discipline is not selected, the whole TermFinder database is searched for your query.

Use wildcards in the search string:

•the asterisk (*) wildcard searches for a sequence of 0 or more characters in a string; Ex: am*ba finds ameba or amoeba

•the underscore (_) wildcard searches for exactly 1 character in a string; Ex: c_ll finds cell or call

•wildcards can be used for browsing; Ex: c* finds all the words starting with c

plural: inducers
Definition: an agent capable of activating specific genes within a cell
Example:
1. Transcription of the lac genes is influenced by the presence or absence of an inducer (lactose or other β-galactosides).

2. Many operons are not only controlled by their respective inducers and regulatory genes, but they are also controlled by the level of glucose in the environment.
