  • Definition: a very fine thread or thread-like structure. At the sub-cellular level, this thread is a chain of proteins, and may be referred to as a microfilament.
  • Example:
    1. Once chromatids have reached opposite ends of the parental cell, the cell divides by pinching off actin and myosin filaments.

    2. Cellular migration often occurs by invagination based on the unequal distribution of actin filaments in cells.
