    plural:
    chromatids
  • Definition: one of two daughter strands of a replicated chromosome. Chromatids are joined by a single centromere and separate during cell division to become individual chromosomes.
  • Example:
    Condensed chromosomes are pulled apart during mitosis, using a system of microtubules which drag the separated chromatids to opposite poles of the cell.
