Search Tips

When you select a discipline, your search is limited to that particular termbank.

If a discipline is not selected, the whole TermFinder database is searched for your query.

Use wildcards in the search string:

•the asterisk (*) wildcard searches for a sequence of 0 or more characters in a string; Ex: am*ba finds ameba or amoeba

•the underscore (_) wildcard searches for exactly 1 character in a string; Ex: c_ll finds cell or call

•wildcards can be used for browsing; Ex: c* finds all the words starting with c

plural: acids
Definition: a substance that releases hydrogen ions when dissolved in water. Acids are both proton donors and electron acceptors.
Example:
1. Acids can accept a pair of electrons to form a chemical bond (a covalent bond).

2. Acids react with certain metals, bases or alkalis to form salts, and acidic solutions turn blue litmus paper red.
